Nigerians are demanding the immediate arrest of Senator Ajibola Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, following the circulation of a video in which he allegedly incited violence against members of the Accord Party ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Osun State.
The footage, widely shared on social media, purportedly shows the All Progressives Congress lawmaker addressing party supporters in Ilesa. The supporters were protesting alleged attacks on APC members. In the video, the senator is heard urging the crowd to attack Accord Party members wherever they are found and to prevent them from voting during the election.
The remarks have triggered widespread condemnation. Citizens and political stakeholders have called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to investigate and prosecute the lawmaker. Concerns have also been raised about the safety of voters in the state.
Reacting to the development, APC chieftain Babafemi Ojudu described the alleged comments as unacceptable in a democracy. In a post on his official Facebook page, Ojudu wrote: “This is unacceptable in a democracy. Not even in the heyday of military rule would a military person talk like this. IGP Tunde Disu, over to you. We await action.”
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is the Accord Party candidate in the election, also demanded the senator’s immediate arrest and prosecution. Adeleke characterized the incident as a national security threat that requires the attention of President Bola Tinubu through the Office of the National Security Adviser.
“I have raised this issue with the IGP and demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of Senator Fadahunsi,” Adeleke said. “The IGP has confirmed the video and assured me of immediate action.”
The governor’s statement underscored the gravity with which the administration views the alleged threat, framing it as a matter that transcends partisan politics.
Senator Fadahunsi has denied the allegations. In an interview with TVC News on Tuesday night, he claimed the viral video was fabricated using artificial intelligence. “The video being circulated by Davido and his group is AI-generated,” the senator said.
The police have not yet issued a formal statement on the status of their investigation. The development adds tension to an already charged electoral atmosphere in Osun State, where stakeholders are closely monitoring the security environment ahead of the polls.
