Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke paid a traditional homage to his elder brother, Adedeji Adeleke, shortly after collecting his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osogbo. A video circulating widely on social media captures the governor prostrating before the business magnate, who is also the father of Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido. The elder Adeleke received the governor warmly and offered prayers for his second term in office.
The visit followed the announcement of Adeleke’s victory in the governorship election held recently. According to results declared by INEC, the governor secured 511,067 votes, defeating his main challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes. The margin of victory underscored a decisive win for the incumbent.
Days before the official presentation of the certificate, Adedeji Adeleke attributed the outcome to divine intervention rather than financial influence. In a separate video recorded on Monday, he recounted retreating to pray on election day after hearing reports of heavy spending by opponents. “I said, ‘God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke,’” the elder brother stated. He described the result as an answer to those prayers.
The public display of deference by a sitting governor to an older sibling highlights the cultural significance of family hierarchy in Yoruba society, even amid high political office. It also draws attention to the Adeleke family’s prominent profile, which spans politics, business, and entertainment. Davido, a global music icon, actively campaigned for his uncle during the election period, mobilizing his vast fan base.
With the Certificate of Return now in hand, Governor Adeleke is constitutionally cleared to begin his second term. The focus now shifts to governance priorities for the new tenure, including the fulfillment of campaign promises and the management of the state’s resources amid prevailing economic challenges. The peaceful transition and the family moment captured on video offer a rare glimpse into the personal dynamics behind a major political victory.
