PDP demands immediate declaration of Adamawa governorship election results

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday, demanded the immediate announcement of the Adamawa State gubernatorial election results.

The party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, stated this during a press conference at the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had halted the collation of the supplementary election results held in the state on Saturday.

The move followed an unlawful declaration of the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, as winner of the governorship election by Hudu Yunusa Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).

But the PDP Acting Chairman told journalists on Tuesday that the delay in collating the results is triggering tension in the entire state.

“This continuing delay is heightening tension in Adamawa State and is capable of triggering a serious breakdown of Law and Order in the State, which is already overstretched as a result of the many perverse activities of the heavily compromised Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).

“It is therefore imperative and urgent that INEC does the needful and save Adamawa State from serious crisis by directing the Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Mele, to immediately conclude collation, declare the final results and return the rightful winner, Governor Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri as the duly elected Governor of Adamawa State,” Damagum said.
