Justice Yerima sworn in as new Chief Judge of Oyo State

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has sworn in Justice Iyabo Subulade Yerima as the new Chief Judge (CJ) of Oyo State.

The swearing-in followed legislative scrutiny and approval of the new Chief Judge by the Oyo State House of Assembly last week.

At the brief swearing-in ceremony held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan, Makinde said he was confident in Justice Yerima’s ability to improve on the lot of the Judiciary.

He tasked the new CJ to bring her wealth of experience and expertise to bear in transforming the fortunes of the judiciary.

“Just a few months ago we were gathered here to swear in Honourable Justice Iyabo Yerima as the Acting Chief Judge of Oyo State and I remember expressing confidence that we would work together, well, I guess the people of Oyo State heard what I said then and yes, we will be working together.

“For me, it is important to emphasise the importance of democratic institutions and set processes. Once the institutions are strong and we follow the processes that govern those instructions, then we can build a better society,” Makinde noted.

Gov Makinde recently got re-elected for a second term in an election that was keenly contested.

He belonged to a splinter group within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, known as G5, spearheaded by outgoing Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.
