Gunmen Attack US Consulate Workers’ Convoy in Anambra State

The Federal Government has condemned the attack on the convoy of United States consulate workers in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State by gunmen whose identity is yet-to-be-revealed. The incident occurred on Tuesday while the embassy officials were passing through the area on a humanitarian mission. This unfortunate event resulted in the death of two policemen and two locally recruited staff of the Consulate.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesperson, Francisca Omayuli, the Federal Government extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and the United States Consulate and Mission in Nigeria. The government also expressed its commitment to the continued fight against all forms of crime and criminality in the country.

The attack on the US consulate workers’ convoy is one amongst several security challenges in Nigeria. The country has witnessed increased security breaches and activities of gunmen in recent times.
