Tinubu Vows Not to Disappoint Nigerians

President-Elect Bola Tinubu receiving his Certificate of Return

In his speech at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, President-elect Bola Tinubu vowed not to disappoint the trust placed in him by President Muhammadu Buhari and millions of Nigerians. Tinubu, who received the National Honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic on Thursday, also acknowledged the honour bestowed upon him and the work ahead of him. He declared that Nigerians deserved only the best.

“I understand the magnitude of the honour conferred on me today and the task ahead. Nigerians deserve no less. You (Buhari) have charted the course and I shall not disappoint you,” he promised.

Tinubu is the 16th person to be awarded the GCFR Honour and joins the likes of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, and Goodluck Jonathan. The President also honoured Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger title.

Earlier, Tinubu received three crucial transition documents from Buhari as part of Executive Order 14. The order mandates the transition council to provide handover notes containing proposed policy directions, among other things, to the incoming administration.

The ceremony, attended by several dignitaries, was a success despite fears of a security breach. Nigerians hope that Tinubu will deliver his campaign promises and make real change in the country.
