President Buhari Inaugurates 3,000-Capacity Correctional Facility in Kano

President Muhammadu Buhari has emphasized the significance of a corrective justice system. This statement was made during the virtual commissioning of a 3,000-capacity modern correctional facility, Janguza, in Kano.

According to President Buhari, viable correctional services are essential in executing court sentences, completing the justice process, and ensuring the removal of felons from circulation. This also secures society while deterring those with antisocial tendencies.

The newly commissioned facility not only benefits the inmates but also provides safe custody and tackles the overcrowding issue experienced in some correctional centres. In recent times, violent attacks on some custodial centres across the country highlighted the need to fortify the security of inmates and staff.

Additionally, the President inaugurated projects of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace in Kano and Kaduna virtually. These include the New Airport Terminal Building at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport and Aircraft Equipment at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, Kaduna State. President Buhari’s administration prioritizes safety, security, and efficiency in air transportation, hence the successful implementation of Aviation Roadmap. This has led to significant growth in the sector, making aviation one of the fastest-growing areas of the economy, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Moreover, President Buhari also opened the relocated Nigerian Navy Logistics College in Dawakin Tofa, Kano State. This college was moved two years ago from the Nigerian Navy Finance and Logistics College at Owerrinta in Imo State, and it has contributed greatly to enhancing the capacity development of naval logisticians. President Buhari expressed his belief that the college would contribute to the operational readiness of the naval fleet for economic prosperity.

In conclusion, the commissioning of the correctional facility and other projects reaffirmed President Buhari’s commitment to improving security, enhancing development, and promoting economic prosperity in Nigeria.
