CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Not in DSS Custody – Agency

The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted claims that Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is in their custody. This statement comes amidst reports of Emefiele’s alleged arrest following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu.

In a release by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Emefiele’s suspension was said to be due to “the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy”. The Presidency has already appointed Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting Governor of the CBN.

Amidst this political upheaval, the DSS has come forward to clarify that Emefiele is not in their customary.
“Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS,” tweeted the agency.

The ousted CBN Governor’s whereabouts remain unclear at the moment. We will keep you informed as the events unfold.
