I’ve Been Brutalized, Tear Gassed, Locked Up for Months – Charly Boy

Famed Nigerian entertainer, Charly Boy, widely known as Area Father, has opened up about his experiences as an activist dedicated to fighting for good governance.

The music artist, who spearheaded the “Our Mumu Don Do” movement, took to Twitter on Wednesday to recount instances where he was brutalized and unjustly detained by security operatives.

Charly Boy, with an expansive career spanning back to 1966, has endured numerous harrowing ordeals, shaping him into the resilient individual he is today.

Addressing his followers on social media, he wrote, “As an individual, a citizen of this once great country, and the Area Fada, I can confidently say that I have witnessed it all. Now, I am as soft as butter.”

“I was young when the Union Jack was lowered into oblivion. I witnessed hope diminish in 1966 and the subsequent widespread destruction in 1967,” he continued.

“I watched my beloved father pave the way for national healing in 1999. Since then, I have witnessed even more. I possess an understanding of the world that few have. I have experienced brutalization, tear gassing, and unjust imprisonment. Our nonsensical security force has left me impoverished,” he confessed.
