Transfer: Real Madrid picks ex-Barcelona star as replacement for Dani Carvajal

Real Madrid is reportedly interested in signing former Barcelona academy player, Arnau Martinez as they eye a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal in the near future.

According to El Nacional, Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti wants Los Blancos to sign an upgrade on Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez.

Real Madrid showed interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi and Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda.

But PSG is unwilling to negotiate for Hakimi, and Fresneda has a host of suitors lined up for him.

This situation has forced Madrid to consider Martinez, who is currently playing for Girona.

Martinez spent six years in La Masia until his departure to Girona in 2016.

The 20-year-old has since established himself as a first-team regular player for Girona.

The Spaniard, who is valued at €15 million, still has two years left on his contract with Girona.
