Why Zamfara APC lost governorship, Assembly elections – Takori

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Barrister Sani Mohammed Takori, has lamented that the Zamfara State chapter of the party lost the governorship election due to internal wrangling.

He maintained that there were serious cracks in the party as things had fallen apart and the center could not hold.

Takori blamed the defeat of the party by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on the power tussle between former Governor Abdulaziz Yari and the immediate past Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

According to him, the National Secretariat of the party tried its best to bring the two factions together to enable the party to capture all the elective seats in the State.

“Both party heavyweights were made to take oaths of unity but they took the oaths under pretence, but the titanic battle was still on”, he lamented.

Speaking further, Takori stated that he has, on several occasions, appealed to the National Secretariat of the party to dissolve the State leadership of the party.

The former federal lawmaker explained that the inexperience of the leadership also contributed to the defeat in the last governorship election, saying even in the State House of Assembly election, the party also lost woefully.

“The leader of the party in the State, Tukur Umar Danfulani, is not a politician but was just there by chance.

“Out of 24 State House of Assembly election, the party was even lucky to have won eight seats in the House which was very embarrassing and perplexing to the ruling party as at then,” he said.

According to Takori, there were no formidable strategies put in place by the party’s leadership in the State, pointing out that the leadership stepped into the party’s destiny for their selfish interest.

The former federal lawmaker who represented Bukkuyum/ Gumi Constituency in the House of Representatives lamented that the cracks were left unattended before the general elections.
