Niger CJ decries failure of judicial staff to fill APER form

The Chief Judge of Niger State and Chairman, Niger State Judicial Service Commission (NJSC), Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, has decried the failure of some staff of the judiciary to fill the Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER) form in the state.

APER is an annual evaluation procedure whereby employees’ work ethics, skills and capabilities are assessed for the suitability of promotion and training.

The Chief Judge made this known while presenting awards to 14 best performing staff in the promotion examinations conducted by the NJSC in Minna.

She explained that despite efforts made to fill the APER form, which is a fundamental requirement for promotion, many judicial staff in the state judicial system refused to do so.

Presenting awards to 14 staff who distinguished themselves in the promotion exams organised by the commission, Justice Abdulmalik assured that the judiciary will continue to reward staff with excellent performances to promote efficiency and competence in the state.

She stated, “It is a matter of public knowledge that there has been a drastic decline in the performance and productivity of judiciary staff.

“Some of the factors responsible were poor supervision and the absence of proper, efficient and effective assessment methodologies and strategies.”

The state CJ also said that, in an effort to promote efficiency and competence in the administration of justice, the state judiciary has decided to embark on an intensive retreat for all categories of staff.
