Emefiele Faces Arraignment for Alleged N6.9bn Procurement Fraud

An Abuja High Court has scheduled the arraignment of suspended Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele, for alleged procurement fraud. The court date is set for August 23rd.Emefiele is to be arraigned alongside Sa’adatu Yaro and her company, April1616 Investment Limited, on 20 charges related to procurement fraud, conspiracy, and providing corrupt advantages to his associates.

According to the Federal Government, the suspects are accused of procuring approximately 98 luxury vehicles and armored buses, with a combined estimated value of ₦6.9 billion.

Justice Muazu Hamza fixed the new date after Yaro’s counsel informed the court that his client was unwell. The prosecution did not object to the request for adjournment.

This latest development comes as yet another blow to Emefiele, who was temporarily removed from his position pending an investigation into the allegations against him. As the trial proceeds, Nigerians will be closely watching to see how justice unfolds in this high-profile case.
