The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a socio-cultural association representing the interests of the Fulani community, has made a startling allegation that a significant number of its members are being held in correctional facilities across the country without any justifiable reason.
Speaking at the association’s Annual General Meeting held in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abdullahi Bodejo, the National President, highlighted the incessant arrests and detentions suffered by cattle herders, solely due to their Fulani heritage.
To address this disturbing trend, the organization has established a dedicated legal team comprising 55 members, with the aim of securing the release of their unjustly detained brethren.
Bodejo called upon the federal government to expedite its efforts in rectifying this issue and ensure the prompt release of those unjustly arrested.
He expressed his concerns, stating, “Many of our kinsmen are languishing in correctional facilities nationwide for reasons that lack any semblance of justice. They are repeatedly targeted and incarcerated simply because they carry out their trade in grazing areas.”
“Furthermore, there are instances where individuals are apprehended on grounds of their Fulani ethnicity alone,” added Bodejo.
He emphasized the urgency of the matter, which prompted the formation of the 55-man legal team. Their main objective is to champion the cause of their people, particularly the innocent ones, and ensure they receive fair treatment and justice.
