Yobe distributes palliatives in Potiskum, targets 6,800 people

Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Thursday continued the distribution of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s palliatives in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking to journalists during the distribution exercise, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Mohammed Goje, said the state government was targeting over 6,800 beneficiaries in Potiskum LGA.

The beneficiaries, according to him, cut across people living with disabilities, vulnerable households, primary and secondary school teachers, civil servants, students, elders, widows, orphanages, and a lot of other vulnerable categories, as directed by Governor Mai Mala Buni.

“Yobe State palliatives distribution started since the announcement of the subsidy removal; both the state and federal governments channelled their efforts towards alleviating the suffering of people as a result of the subsidy removal,” Dr Goje said.

“We have strong communication from the federal government. Already we are starting to receive consignments from the federal government, and we are reaching more communities with either state or federal government palliatives as directed by the Executive Governor,” he added.

Dr. Goje further said: “We have selected the beneficiaries from the population of the communities in the local government, from among vulnerable households, and according to [the outcome of] community leaders and stakeholders engagement.”

He said each household received 20kg of rice and maize and was urged not to sell the food items.
