Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has strongly criticized the recent national convention held by the David-Mark faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the event as disorganized and lacking credibility. In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Fani-Kayode alleged that the gathering reflected poor coordination and internal disunity within the party faction.
According to Fani-Kayode, the convention venue was overcrowded and uncomfortable, with attendees visibly sweating due to inadequate facilities, including a lack of functional air-conditioning. He claimed the atmosphere was marked by disorder, with participants arguing loudly and even engaging in physical altercations.
He recounted an incident involving an elderly speaker who mistakenly referenced the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of the ADC during his address, which he said created an awkward moment. Fani-Kayode also criticized the overall tone and appearance of the event, portraying it as lacking seriousness and cohesion.
Describing the gathering as more of a collection of “hungry, ragged, and desperate” individuals rather than a legitimate political party convention, Fani-Kayode dismissed the faction’s political strength. He suggested the event was akin to a “street convention” of vagabonds and opportunists, rather than a serious political gathering.
The former minister concluded by asserting that the faction poses no real challenge in future elections, stating, “The ADC ain’t going nowhere!” His remarks highlight ongoing divisions within the ADC and raise questions about the party’s internal stability as it prepares for upcoming political contests.
