Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement during the exercise.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Tuesday, Amaechi described the results being announced from the primaries as “concocted,” insisting that the process failed to meet the standards of transparency and fairness promised by the party.
According to him, a large percentage of party members across the country were allegedly denied the opportunity to vote during the primaries.
“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi stated.
The former Rivers State governor said he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the election if the process was free, fair, and transparent.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he said.
Amaechi further accused the ADC of engaging in the same electoral practices it had previously criticised in Nigeria’s political system, including alleged vote buying, result manipulation, and voter suppression.
“A party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results, cannot be engaged in vote buying, writing of results, and other electoral malpractices,” he added.
He stressed that the ADC was created to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative capable of addressing the country’s governance challenges and giving ordinary citizens a voice.
The ADC has yet to officially respond to Amaechi’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
