Organized Labour in Niger State, North Central Nigeria, has made a resolute decision to redirect a substantial sum of N110 million, initially designated as palliatives for industrial unions, towards the benefit of the broader workforce within the state.
Chairman of the Niger State Chapel of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Abdulkarim Idris Lafene, made this announcement during a press conference held in Minna, the state capital.
According to Lafene, “the focal demand of the Niger State Labour is a uniform payout of N50,000 to all working-class individuals and retirees across the state’s government and local government councils.
“This monetary assistance is expected to be consistently deposited into the salary accounts of civil servants and retirees for a period of six months,” Idiris Lafene said.
Furthermore, the State Labour leader has issued an instruction to workers in Niger State, urging them to abstain from participating in the committee established by the Niger State government for the allocation of palliatives, which was slated to commence tomorrow, Wednesday.
Comrade Idris Lafene highlighted that the government’s deliberate attempt to exclude the working class and pensioners from the palliatives has generated significant tension among members of organized labour, posing potential challenges to overall workforce productivity.
