Lawmaker condemns murder of FUOYE student, demands thorough investigation

The House of Representatives spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi, has condemned the brutal murder of a student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Módúpé Atanda.

This is contained in a statement issued by Rotimi on Thursday in Abuja, where he demanded a thorough investigation into the murder with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

NAN reports that Atanda, a 200-level student of the institution had gone to study in the evening of Sept. 4, but was later declared missing.

Authorities of the institution report that the missing student was subsequently found dead in a shallow grave on the campus on Sept. 6

The lawmaker, who represents Ekiti North 1, Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency, called on the government of Ekiti, relevant security agencies, and stakeholders in the community to collaborate to fish out the culprits and bring them to book.

“We owe it to the memory of late Atanda to ensure our students, and indeed all residents in our communities, are safe and secure as they go about their legitimate activities,” Rotimi said.

He encouraged anyone with useful information related to the case to contact the Nigeria Police Force to assist in their investigations.

“It is through the collective efforts of the community that justice can be swiftly served and a sense of security restored.”, the lawmaker said.
