Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, Abolishes Tuition Fees in All Junior Secondary Schools

In a commendable move to improve access to quality education, Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has abolished the payment of tuition fees and other levies in all government schools across the state. This groundbreaking decision applies to pupils from nursery, primary, and junior secondary schools.

Governor Soludo made this historic announcement during his visit to Premier Primary School in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, and Ado Girls Secondary School in Onitsha. Emphasizing the importance of eliminating financial barriers to education, the governor warned that no teacher should demand money from pupils in government schools under any circumstances. Any individual found contravening this directive will face appropriate sanctions.

It is worth noting that although Anambra State has been maintaining tuition-free schools, parents have been burdened with various levies. However, Governor Soludo’s progressive decision ensures that no child in the state, from nursery to junior secondary school level, will be required to pay any fees.

Speaking on the momentous occasion, Governor Soludo emphasized the constitutional requirement for the government to provide free primary or secondary education in Nigeria. He further stated his administration’s commitment to revolutionize public education and position it as a model in the education sector.

With a clear vision in mind, Governor Soludo pledged to invest in and rebuild the infrastructure of government-run public schools in the state in the coming weeks and months. This ambitious plan will bring about a comprehensive government agenda for the education sector.

“This administration will use education as an opportunity equalizer. Education is not just the future; it is the present. Our overarching goal is to make education the foundation for all,” explained Governor Soludo.

This laudable initiative marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of inclusive and accessible education in Anambra State. By eliminating financial barriers, Governor Soludo has set the stage for a brighter future where all children can thrive and reach their full potential through education.
