Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has expressed that President Bola Tinubu is fully dedicated to upholding and safeguarding democracy in the country, maintaining a strong bond between the executive branch and the legislature.
Vice President Shettima made this remark while inaugurating a retreat for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on Friday.
He assured the National Assembly’s leadership of President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the consolidation of democratic principles and values, fostering collaboration between all arms of government.
Vice President Shettima emphasized President Tinubu’s unparalleled democratic credentials, which include his legislative experience. He stated that these experiences would continue to influence the President’s governance style, particularly in terms of respect for the rule of law, adherence to the separation of powers, and protection of constitutional rights.
The Vice President described the composition of the Nigerian government, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly, as historic, unique, and a significant pathway towards unprecedented development in Nigeria.
He added that despite the current challenges, the aspirations of Nigerians would be met through this form of governance.
Speaking about the unity among the arms of government, Vice President Shettima emphasized the need for peaceful coherence in order to effectively serve the Nigerian people.
He expressed the enduring bonds formed among the members of the National Assembly, highlighting their shared commitment to the dreams, needs, and fears of the diverse nation.
Vice President Shettima reiterated the importance of national cohesion, stating that it is essential for harnessing the country’s potential and ensuring the prosperity of all Nigerians.
Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support and deep respect for legislative independence and harmony.
