President Bola Tinubu

The Rivers State House of Assembly unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, citing the numerous federal projects attracted to the state during his administration. The endorsement was made during the House’s 37th Legislative Session on Wednesday, when 26 members signed a motion read at plenary by House Leader Major Jack.

Lawmakers said their vote of confidence was essential for continuity, especially given Tinubu’s role in resolving the state’s intense political crisis, which they described as a “fatherly intervention.” They also praised Tinubu for appointing notable indigenes of Rivers State to positions of trust, strengthening ties with the federal government and boosting the morale of local politicians.

Speaker Martin Amaewhule lauded Tinubu as a “compassionate father committed to repositioning the country on the path of growth” and commended the administration’s strategic, people‑oriented economic policies as “impactful.” The legislators further vowed to rally grassroots support for the “Renewed Hope Agenda” and pledged loyalty to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.

The endorsement is significant given the state’s history of political tensions and is likely to be closely watched by other states and stakeholders, potentially setting a precedent for future endorsements. Rivers State has benefited from several federal initiatives, including infrastructure development and social welfare programs, and the lawmakers’ support acknowledges the positive impact of these projects on the state’s economy and its citizens. As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, the Rivers State House of Assembly’s endorsement of President Tinubu represents a notable expression of confidence in his leadership, with implications for both the state and the nation.
