The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, recently paid a visit to the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono, in Abuja. During the visit, Governor Adeleke appealed for TETFund’s support in enhancing the infrastructural development of tertiary institutions in the state.
Recognizing the educational decline in the state, Adeleke emphasized the importance of prioritizing education. He stated, “The visit was necessary to ensure education takes its pride.” He commended TETFund for its contributions to the growth of tertiary education and acknowledged that most development in tertiary institutions is attributable to TETFund’s intervention.
The Governor spoke highly of the impact of TETFund in Osun State, stating, “In Osun state, we are enjoying TETFund’s support in the areas of infrastructure. I am here to seek further assistance from TETFund because we still require a substantial amount of support to address our educational challenges.”
In response, Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, emphasized the critical role of tertiary education in the advancement of a nation. He highlighted that tertiary education is where innovative ideas, new products and services, and improved methods of operation are birthed.
Echono stated, “Tertiary education plays a unique role in shaping the destiny of any country. It is the level where the highest levels of production, creativity, and impact occur. When we get tertiary education right, we can even export our expertise to other African countries and beyond.”
Echono further explained that equipping Nigerians with the necessary tools and creating an enabling environment for them to excel will result in significant progress across various fields. He commended Governor Adeleke for his commitment to education and the state’s focus on promoting technical education.
Echono concluded by underscoring the importance of laying a solid foundation in education, emphasizing that collective efforts are required for the development of the country.
