Ukrainian President Holds Meeting with Sudanese Leader to Discuss Russian Paramilitaries

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, revealed on Saturday that he had an unexpected encounter with the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, at Shannon airport in Ireland. During their meeting, they delved into the issue of Russia-funded armed groups.

Taking to Telegram, Zelenskiy stated, “We discussed our common security challenges, namely the activities of illegal armed groups financed by Russia.” He also expressed his gratitude to Sudan for standing by Ukraine’s territorial integrity, even in the midst of its own deadly civil war.

It is worth noting that Russia’s Wagner mercenary group has been operating in Ukraine since Moscow’s invasion. Although there have been claims from Western diplomats and media that the group is also active in Sudan, Wagner has denied these allegations.
