FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has given a lifeline to owners of 189 undeveloped plots of land in Abuja. In a move aimed at boosting development in the territory, the Minister has approved a three-month grace period for these landowners to either start developing their land or risk having their allocation papers revoked.

According to Muhammad Sule, the Director of Information and Communication at the FCT Administration, these titled landowners had already obtained building plan approvals but have failed to develop the properties. In line with existing laws, they are now required to commence development within the stipulated period or face the consequences of having their title documents revoked.

This grace period applies to both individuals and corporate organizations that have demonstrated a desire to develop their land by obtaining the necessary building plan approvals. Public institutions that hold land titles within the FCT, but have yet to develop the land, are also urged to take action within the three-month period to avoid any sanctions.

“The Minister has extended this gesture to 189 property owners who have shown their commitment to developing their properties by obtaining building plan approvals,” explained Sule. “They are exempted from revocation as they have already demonstrated their firm commitment to develop their land by obtaining the necessary documents from the FCT Administration.”

Sule emphasized that it is crucial for the affected property owners to seize this opportunity and develop their plots in accordance with the terms of their Offer of Right-of-Occupancy. The FCT Administration also appeals to public institutions that have been allocated land to initiate development. Failure to do so within the specified timeframe may result in the revocation of their title documents.

With this move, the FCT Minister aims to encourage the efficient utilization of land resources and the overall development of Abuja. The ball is now in the court of the landowners and public institutions to take advantage of this grace period and embrace their responsibilities as stewards of the FCT’s valuable land.
