The Senate is set to conduct a thorough screening of Olayemi Michael Cardoso, the former Chairman of the Board of Citi Bank Nigeria, for the prestigious position of Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Joining him in this process will be four nominees for the position of CBN Deputy Governors. Together, they will steer the apex bank’s affairs for the next five years.
In an official statement released by the Media Office of the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, it was revealed that the screening of all the nominees will take place following the Senate’s resumption from its annual recess on Tuesday.
The statement further explained that the screening of Dr. Cardoso, along with the four deputy governors – Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello – will be conducted by the Committee of the Whole.
Additionally, the Senate has also scheduled the screening of ministerial nominees, Jamila Bio Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, for October 3. They have been designated as the Minister of Youth and the Minister of State for Youth, respectively.
President Tinubu had earlier approved the nomination of Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on September 15. He also approved the nomination of the four deputy governors, who will serve for a term of five years each, pending confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
