In the midst of the prevailing hardships faced by citizens across the nation, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has conveyed its weariness with the unending promises made by the federal government.

Festus Osifo, the President of the TUC, expressed his frustration with the Ministry of Labour’s long-standing commitment to fulfilling the union’s demands.

The TUC had presented a list of demands, which included wage awards for civil servants to alleviate the difficulties caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, tax exemptions for certain categories of workers, and the establishment of effective structures for implementing government palliatives.

Previously, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, had assured Nigerian workers that the government would soon settle the issue of wage awards.

The minister appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to refrain from embarking on its proposed indefinite strike and allow the government to resolve all outstanding matters.

However, Osifo emphasized that the union is now demanding tangible actions from the Federal Government.

During an appearance on Channels Television on Tuesday, Osifo stated, “In our recent meeting with the Ministry of Labour, they informed us that the president was out of the country and projected that upon his return, a pronouncement would be made.

“But this morning, I saw that the pronouncement will come soon. However, we have grown increasingly weary of ‘soon.’ We desire a definitive pronouncement and a tangible resolution to this lingering issue.

“Over time, we have heard numerous dates and assurances of prompt action. We are exhausted by promises. What we seek is concrete action.

“Nigerians are tired of attending meetings and hearing endless promises. We yearn for genuine action, not just promises.”
