‘FG Assures: No Labour Strike as Tinubu’s Plans are Revealed’

The Federal Government has emphatically stated that a nationwide strike will be averted, despite the earlier declaration by the labour unions, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Media Talk Africa reports that the unions had announced their intention to embark on a strike due to the failure of the Federal Government to meet their demands.

However, the government has disclosed that Bola Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, will announce a palliative package for workers during his customary Independence Day speech.

Olajide Oshundun, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, confirmed that a meeting is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the pronouncements that President Tinubu will make in his Independence Day broadcast.

He assured the public, stating, “We will avert the strike. We received news of their intention to go on strike. Nigerian workers can be rest assured that President Tinubu will make important announcements in his October 1 speech.”

Oshundun further explained, “The ministry is actively working to address the second aspect of their demands, which focuses on wage awards. We have already secured the release of the factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

“Therefore, we hope to invite them on Tuesday, following the President’s pronouncements, to discuss the reasons for calling off the strike.”
