The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that the federal government does not have any intention to impose additional taxes on Nigeria’s aviation industry. He made this statement during a webinar titled “Repositioning the Aviation Sector for Revenue Generation and Growth: Role of Legislation,” which was organized by Olisa Agbakoba Legal (OAL).
Concerns have been raised regarding the numerous charges and taxes that airlines and service providers in the aviation industry have to pay. However, Minister Keyamo has provided reassurance that the government is committed to the repositioning of the country’s aviation sector through a five-point agenda.
The minister emphasized that the government will focus on addressing revenue leakages within the aviation sector. He outlined the areas of concentration in the five-point agenda, which include strict compliance with national laws and regulations, fulfillment of international obligations, infrastructure development to enhance passenger convenience, support for the growth and sustainability of local airline businesses, human capacity development, and optimization of revenue generation.
“As the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, I am deeply committed to this agenda. In these challenging times, characterized by evolving market dynamics and global uncertainties, the need to reposition our aviation sector for sustainable growth has never been more pressing. It requires vision, resilience, finances, and collaboration,” Minister Keyamo stated.
He further expressed his optimistic view that the stakeholders participating in the webinar session would use their impressive track records to develop effective strategies for repositioning the aviation sector through legislation. The government is dedicated to undertaking initiatives and providing policy support that will encourage investment across the aviation value chain.
