The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), represented by the Kaduna State Chairman, Rev John Joseph Hayab, has expressed disappointment over Nigeria’s progress since gaining independence 63 years ago.

Rev Hayab stated, “At 63, we have not done well. We are still crawling and struggling to find our direction. Insecurity and lack of growth continue to plague our nation, leading to threats of strike actions by labor unions due to poor services.”

This sentiment was echoed by Rev Hayab during a prayer session organized by the Baptist Seminary in Kaduna. He emphasized the need for Nigerians to contribute to nation-building and hold leaders accountable for their responsibilities as stipulated by the constitution.

Furthermore, Rev Hayab urged Nigerians to fulfill their tax obligations to ensure government accountability. He stressed, “Those in governance must listen to the yearnings of the people. Nigerians desire progress and improvements in all aspects of life.”

Expressing concern, he lamented, “Although our population may be large, we have failed in most sectors.”

Prior to Rev Hayab’s remarks, Rev Dr Manasseh Haruna, the Vice Chairman of Baptist Seminary, Kaduna, explained that the prayer session was organized to commemorate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary.

Rev Dr Haruna emphasized the need for collective responsibility and for the nation to take necessary steps in order to progress.
