The All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professional ethics and fulfilling the mandate of the confederation. The assurance was given by Alhaji Bello Gupa, the President of ANCOPSS, during the 166th Congress held at Model Girls’ Junior Secondary School in AMAC Estate, Abuja.

In his address, Gupa emphasized the responsibility of the professional body to ensure that principals adhere to the professional code of conduct and ethical practices in accordance with international standards. He noted that the congress plays a crucial role in keeping school administrators well-informed about developments in secondary education and strategies to enhance the teaching and learning process in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Gupa reminded ANCOPSS members of their pledge to loyalty and commitment, urging them to be accountable in the day-to-day management of their schools. As public officers, he emphasized the need for them to be mindful of their stewardship and ensure judicious use of public funds in compliance with existing laws and financial regulations.

The ANCOPSS President expressed disappointment with some principals’ conduct when it comes to handing over to their successors, emphasizing the importance of transparency in such matters. He cautioned against any attitude that may create conflicts with the authorities and administrations they serve.

Gupa specifically warned against the collection of illegal charges as the new academic session begins, emphasizing that all school fees payments should comply with the approved rates set by the FCT Administration through the relevant boards and departments.

To foster an effective and efficient teaching and learning system, Gupa encouraged principals to assist one another within their respective zones whenever the need arises. He commended the efforts of the boards and departments in creating a conducive learning environment and delivering quality education.

Assuring continued support, Gupa affirmed that ANCOPSS would work tirelessly with all stakeholders to strengthen secondary education in the FCT and achieve its goals.

The newly elected National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sam Okpe, Principal of Government Secondary School Kwali, emphasized the importance of adhering to rules and regulations to maintain the positive image of the confederation as principals discharge their duties in the teaching and learning system.

The host principal, Hajia Titilayo Yahaya, expressed her delight at being part of the congress, highlighting the benefits derived from the discussions as a morale booster that would impact the academic activities of the new session. She reminded principals of their immense responsibility in educating and shaping future leaders in line with best practices.

Hajia Yahaya commended the leadership of ANCOPSS, the FCT Education Secretariat, and the Garki Zone for their support and efforts in ensuring a successful meeting.

The congress culminated with the launch of the 2022 FCT Scholarship in collaboration with ANCOPSS, benefitting several students from the school.
