Sultan of Sokoto Urges Labour Unions to Reconsider Planned Strike

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has made a heartfelt appeal to labour unions to shelve their plans for a nationwide strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 3.

The unions had decided to embark on an indefinite strike in response to the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

During a public lecture held in Abuja to commemorate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar called on the unions to consider the interests of the masses and engage in dialogue instead of resorting to a strike.

Highlighting the negative outcomes of strikes, the Sultan stressed the importance of finding peaceful solutions through constructive conversations. He expressed his concern for the common people, urging government leaders to empathize with their plight and work towards alleviating their suffering.

Referring to the government’s intentions, the Sultan expressed optimism that they would not intentionally make life unbearable for the citizens. He called for patience and urged stakeholders to give the government a chance to address the issues at hand.

Highlighting the adverse consequences of a strike, the Sultan emphasized the disruption it would cause to vital services such as electricity, water supply, healthcare facilities, and transportation systems.

Appealing to the unions, he implored them to reconsider their decision for the sake of the nation’s welfare.
