Abia Tribunal Dismisses LP’s Petition, Upholds Iheonunekwu’s Victory in Isiala Ngwa North

The election petition tribunal in Abia State, sitting in Umuahia, has thrown out the petition filed by the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Innocent Uruakpa. The petition challenged the victory of Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Assembly election held on March 18.

Iheonunekwu is the elected representative for the Isiala Ngwa North constituency.

The tribunal upheld the victory of Mr. Iheonunekwu and dismissed the prayers made by Mr. Uruakpa, the LP candidate, for lack of merit.

During the delivery of its judgement, the three-man tribunal, led by Hon Justice Abubakar Idris Kutigi, stated that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient evidence to support his claims of election irregularities against Iheonunekwu.

Consequently, Mr. Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu’s victory was upheld.

In response to the ruling, Iheonunekwu expressed his satisfaction with the judgement and expressed his gratitude to his constituents and supporters for their unwavering belief in him throughout the litigation process.
