Supreme Court Sets Date to Hear Nnamdi Kanu’s Case on October 5

In a significant development, the Supreme Court has announced that it will hear all appeals regarding Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Thursday, October 5th, 2023.

Following a judgment delivered on October 13, 2022, by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, where Kanu’s counsel, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, had appealed parts of the Federal High Court’s ruling.

The Federal High Court had initially retained seven counts out of the original 15 against Kanu, after striking out eight. However, the Court of Appeal, in response to Ozekhome’s appeal, directed the Federal Government to release Kanu unconditionally and prohibited any further detainment or prosecution of Kanu on any charges within Nigeria.

During the upcoming hearing, Kanu’s lead Counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, will argue for the dismissal of the appeal filed by the Federal Government. In anticipation of the event, Ejiofor issued a statement expressing their conviction that justice will prevail and highlighting the importance of adherence to legal processes.
