Tribunal upholds David Onarigu’s election into Nasarawa Assembly

The National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has upheld the election of David Onarigu as the representative for the Udege/Loko Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

Onarigu, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), emerged victorious over Ahmed Tanko, the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Recall that Tanko and his party had contested the outcome of the election, citing the omission of the NNPP logo and non-compliance with the electoral act by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the election.

The three-member panel led by Justice Francisca Nnang dismissed the petition, citing lack of merit in the claims presented by the NNPP candidate.

Justice Nnang, while delivering the judgment, emphasized that the NNPP candidate had failed to substantially prove his case and thereby dismissed it in its entirety.

“The court hereby dismissed the case in its entirety,” Justice Nnang said.
