The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Amos Dangut as its new Head of National Office (HNO). This comes after the expiration of the tenure of the council’s previous HNO, Patrick Areghan.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Dangut served as the Deputy Registrar in the HNO’s office. His appointment was made official in a statement issued by Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC.
Achievements and Experience
Dr. Dangut joined WAEC in 1998 as an Assistant Registrar II and steadily climbed the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar in April 2018. He has been commended by the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) for his transparent conduct of examinations between 2000 and 2006.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dangut has leveraged Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to enhance various processes involved in test development, test administration, and post-test activities. He is an astute scholar with numerous educational publications in international and national journals. Additionally, he has shared his expertise through keynote presentations and papers at both international and national conferences.
Dr. Dangut is an active member of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).
Personal Background and Education
Dr. Amos Dangut was born on October 2, 1967, in the Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State. He obtained his secondary education at the Government Secondary School in Riyom from 1981 to 1983 and at the Government Science School in Kuru from 1983 to 1986, where he obtained his WASC/SC in 1986.
He furthered his education at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, where he earned a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production in 1991. Dr. Dangut pursued postgraduate studies, obtaining a Master of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Ibadan in April 1994, and a PhD in Animal Science from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi in 2017. He also holds a Master of Education (Administration and Planning) degree from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), which he obtained in 2020.
