The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has announced the appointment of Professor Jake Dan-Azumi as his Chief of Staff. This significant decision was made to enhance the smooth functioning of the office and drive its agenda forward.
The appointment, effective from October 17, 2023, was confirmed via a press statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Abdullahi Krishi.
Succession from Acting to Permanent
Professor Jake Dan-Azumi assumes the role of Chief of Staff, succeeding Mr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart, the Acting Chief of Staff to the Speaker. Olanrewaju-Smart is moving on to another appointment, and his contributions during his tenure are greatly appreciated.
A Distinguished Scholar and Experienced Practitioner
Prior to his appointment as Chief of Staff, Professor Dan-Azumi served as the Technical Assistant to the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), National Assembly. His extensive experience in the field of political science and development studies, along with his dedication to democratic governance and public policy, makes him an exceptional choice for this key position.
Professor Dan-Azumi brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role. With a background in parliamentary institutional strengthening, research, peace and security, human rights, conflict and peacebuilding, and gender studies, he is well-equipped to handle the multifaceted challenges faced by the Speaker’s office.
A Proven Track Record
Professionally, Professor Dan-Azumi has spent over 14 years contributing to the National Assembly system. His exceptional skills in designing and delivering parliamentary and democratic support programs have been widely recognized and appreciated.
Educationally, Professor Dan-Azumi possesses an impressive array of qualifications. He holds a Doctorate Degree in International Development from University College London (UCL), an MSc in International Human Rights Law from Oxford University, a BA (First Class) from the University of South Africa, and a BA (First Class, Honours) from the University of Zimbabwe, where he was awarded the Book Prize for the Best Student. Furthermore, he has also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methods from the University of Bradford, UK, among other achievements.
