The Commonwealth Society of Nigeria has emphasized the importance of promoting peace, unity, and progress in the country. This call was made during the National Conference held in Awka, the capital of Anambra State. The conference, with the theme “Renewed Hope,” aimed to strengthen the existing peace, unity, and progress among Nigerians.

The General Secretary of the Commonwealth Society, Abubakar Abutu, highlighted that peace and security are fundamental prerequisites for the economic growth and development of any nation.

According to Abutu, “the Nigerian nation was founded on love, oneness, tolerance, as well as solidarity, and I urge Nigerians to embrace the vision of our forefathers.

“The aim of the conference is to instill the values of peace, unity, and progress in the youth.”

During the conference, Agu Chiagozie, the Chairman of the event, called on the Nigerian and State governments, as well as philanthropists, to develop better plans for the youth in order to secure their future.

Chiagozie commended the Commonwealth Society for its efforts in fostering peace, unity, and positive relationships among member nations.

Mr. Cajethan Goodluck, a Commonwealth award winner and guest speaker, emphasized the need for job creation for the youth. He observed that many unemployed youth often become involved in crisis situations and that providing them with employment opportunities would mitigate this issue.

Ambassador Chineke also urged Nigerians to promote dialogue and justice as means of sustaining peace and development. He stressed that “justice and security are essential for the economic growth and development of any country.

“To thrive, Nigeria must prioritize peace, unity, and progress. It is imperative for civil society to educate the masses on peace initiatives and foster national orientation for peace and solidarity,” he explained.

The conference was attended by participants, primarily youths from the Southeast states. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Peace Award to veteran actress Patience Ozokwor, actor Obiorah Chikezie, and gospel artist Philip Michael.
