The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has ordered the fast reconstruction of waterworks in Abakaliki capital metropolis.
The waterworks street leads to Ebonyi River, the place the state water reservoir is situated.
Media Talk Africa gathered that the bridge linking the tip of the street to the Ebonyi River was destroyed years in the past, reportedly in the course of the Biafran warfare.
Nwifuru had on Thursday toured the street and the reservoir and ordered that the waterworks street and the bridge be reconstructed to pave the best way for the upkeep of the reservoir.
The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Stanley Mbam, who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki, in the course of the graduation of the reconstruction, mentioned the clearing of the dilapidated waterworks street main to the low-lift facility has commenced after a number of years of abandonment.
He said that the reconstruction of the waterworks street venture would pave the best way for the true upkeep of the reservoir, such that it’ll provide transportable water to the individuals of the state.
According to him: “The clearing of the waterworks road has commenced and once we reconstruct this road, the reservoir which is meant to supply water to the people of Ebonyi State is located inside. The maintenance of the reservoir will start as soon as the road is reconstructed.
“We are picking the design of the road and the surveyors are working and the total kilometre of the road will be made known as soon as the clearing is over.
“This road was completely abandoned, just yesterday, the governor visited here and today work has commenced and within a short period of time the low lift will be done.
“I can confidently tell you that work has started at low lift Because of the bushy nature of the road” he said.
