The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has refuted claims that he has abandoned the campaign of Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, Bello emphasized that his support for Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, in the upcoming 2023 presidential election remains steadfast and unwavering.
Reports from various media outlets, excluding The Punch, suggested that Bello might have distanced himself from the Tinubu campaign. These speculations were fueled by the actions of the National Youth Coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, which some interpreted as a reflection of the political dynamics in the North-Central state ahead of the November governorship election. In response to these rumors, Bello stated, “My unwavering support for Tinubu/Shettima 2023 is 100% undiluted. God bless APC!!! God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!”
This speculation arose just a day after a significant figure in the Tinubu-Shettima campaign, Naja’atu Muhammad, announced her resignation from the APC. Naja’atu, who served as the Director of Civil Society in the Presidential Campaign Council, stepped down from her position on Saturday, just one month before the presidential election. In her resignation letter addressed to the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, she expressed her concerns about the state of the nation and indicated her desire to focus on efforts to improve the country rather than remain involved in party politics.
