Akwanga and several other areas in Nasarawa State are currently witnessing protests in the wake of the judgment pronounced by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal (GEPT) in Lafia.
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Sule’s loyalists have taken to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with what they perceive as an unjust treatment of the governor by the Tribunal.
On the 2nd of October 2023, the Tribunal ruled that Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party emerged as the legitimate winner of the March 18 polls, thereby declaring Governor Sule an illegitimate occupant of the governorship seat in the state.
Displeased with the judgment, the APC and Governor Sule have firmly rejected the verdict and directed their legal team to proceed to the appellate court for an appeal.
In a show of solidarity with the Governor, several party stakeholders embarked on a march in Akwanga Local Government, brandishing banners with various inscriptions such as “Akwanga people stand with the dissenting judgment” and more.
