Ifon-Ilobu crisis: APC National Secretary, Basiru sues for peace

Parties in the recent hostilities between Ifon and Ilobu have been urged to prioritise dialogue as the path to peace.

This call was made by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ajibola Basiru.

Basiru, in a statement, condemned the conflicts that have resulted in the destruction of lives and property.

He added that he felt concerned for the victims and identified with them.

“I call on traditional rulers, local leaders, community elders and the government to take effective steps towards dousing the tension that has given birth to conflagration.

“I believe constructive discussions, implementing conflict resolution mechanisms and peaceful negotiations can breed an enduring and lasting harmony between the warring communities and engender a large-scale peace in Osun State.

“It is our collective responsibility to come together as citizens, set aside our differences, recognize our shared history, culture and norms to build stronger communities, foster physical and economic growth and secure a better future for the coming generation,” he said.

The APC National Scribe also appealed to the media and the civil society organisations to be instrumental in efforts towards peace by spreading messages of reconciliation, cohesion and hope.

“I wish to restates my commitment to working with other stakeholders in the pursuit of peace in Ifon and Ilobu.

“I also call on all and sundry to join in the endeavour for a more harmonious and prosperous Osun State,” he concluded.
