Onuigbo: Abia Central Senate Bid Aligns with Renewed Hope

APC Chieftain Onuigbo Seeks Abia Central Senate Seat, Cites Public Service and Economic Development

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief Sam Onuigbo, has declared his intention to contest the seat for Abia Central Senatorial District, stating his campaign is focused on national development rather than personal ambition.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Onuigbo outlined his platform, emphasizing economic and political advancement for his district and Nigeria. He pledged to leverage his legislative and administrative experience to provide effective representation in the upper legislative chamber.

Onuigbo is a former member of the House of Representatives, where he represented the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency. His legislative record includes sponsoring and championing the Climate Change Bill, which was successfully passed into law. He framed his current senatorial bid as a continuation of his public service, explicitly distancing it from personal motives.

“The mandate I seek as senator is not for selfish aggrandisement,” Onuigbo stated. “I feel elated that I am not only doubly qualified to serve our zone as senator, but also confident of bringing honour and accomplished representation.”

He further aligned his aspirations with the policy direction of the federal government, noting his intention to contribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Onuigbo said he would apply his experience to advance policies that benefit Nigerians, stressing the nation’s need for selfless leaders with the intellectual capacity to enact globally competitive laws.

The senatorial contest in Abia Central will be a key race in the state’s political landscape. Onuigbo’s campaign centers on his legislative pedigree and a promise to translate that experience into tangible development outcomes for his constituents, framed within a broader national agenda.

His entry into the race underscores the APC’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the Southeast region. The outcome of the primary and subsequent general election will determine if Onuigbo can transition his previous legislative successes to the Senate, where he aims to influence economic and environmental policy at a national level.
