The Katsina State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, with the arrest of 1,005 suspects connected to 853 different crimes between June and September, 2023. This impressive feat was revealed by ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the spokesperson for the command, during a briefing for journalists in Katsina on Monday.
ASP Abubakar Aliyu, on behalf of Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, shared that despite the challenges faced by the Police, they have managed to achieve tremendous success in their operations. The command has targeted and apprehended bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminals in the state.
Out of the total recorded cases, 393 have already been prosecuted in various courts within the state. The charges varied from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, and rape. Additionally, 707 suspects faced charges related to offenses such as intimidation, drug possession, dealing in illicit substances, cultism, inciting disturbances, and exhibiting criminal behavior.
The Katsina State Police Command’s achievements also include the successful rescue of 171 kidnapped victims and the elimination of five suspected kidnappers. The recovery of dangerous weapons was also significant, with the seizure of four AK 47 rifles, six locally made guns, and 517 live rounds of ammunition. Furthermore, the command recovered over 600 rustled animals, 12 stolen vehicles and motorcycles, and 17 suspected stolen mobile phones.
In their efforts to curb drug-related crimes, the police confiscated 568 sachets of D5 tablets, 180 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 23 packets of Exzole tablets, 411 packets of rebozel tablets, and five packs of Diezole tablets.
The Commissioner emphasized that more needs to be done to maintain peace and security in the state. He warned criminals to either surrender or face the full wrath of the law. He expressed his gratitude to the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu, the people of the state, and the media for their unwavering support.
“The fight against crime and criminality is a dynamic one and not to be taken lightly. I urge you to continue to highlight the hard work and dedication of the police and other security agencies to the general public,” the Commissioner concluded.
