Minister: Peter Obi’s Candidacy Will Cost ADC 2027 Election

The Minister of Art, Culture and Tourism, Hannatu Musawa, has expressed her views on the potential candidates for the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria. In a recent interview on the Mic One podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, Musawa stated that fielding Peter Obi as the candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would be the quickest way for the party to lose the election.

Musawa also shared her assessment of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s chances against President Bola Tinubu in 2027. While acknowledging Atiku as a formidable opponent, she believes he is not a match for Tinubu. “I don’t think Atiku is a match for Tinubu, but he is a formidable opponent,” she said. Musawa added that if Peter Obi were to be the presidential candidate, it would guarantee the opposition’s loss in the election.

Furthermore, Musawa noted that if the ADC were to field Atiku as its candidate, it would imply that the party does not recognize the need for the South to maintain power. “If it’s Atiku on that ticket, it means the ADC doesn’t recognize that the South should maintain power,” she explained. This statement suggests that the party’s decision on its candidate could have significant implications for the regional balance of power in Nigeria.

The 2027 presidential election is expected to be a highly contested race, with various parties and candidates vying for power. The ADC’s choice of candidate will likely be closely watched, as it could impact the party’s chances of success. As the election approaches, political leaders and analysts will be closely monitoring the developments and strategies of the various parties involved.

The Minister’s comments have highlighted the complexities and challenges of Nigerian politics, where regional and party affiliations play a significant role in shaping the electoral landscape. As the country prepares for the 2027 election, it remains to be seen how the various parties will navigate these complexities and position themselves for success.
