In a commendable act of honesty, Malam Dayyabu Bala Gezawa, a casual worker with the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, has been rewarded by the Kano State Government for returning missing dollars worth N16 million. The government announced on Tuesday that Gezawa would be granted a permanent job, a seat for the Hajj pilgrimage, and a monetary reward of one million naira.
The incident occurred when Gezawa discovered the missing money while performing his duties and promptly handed it over to the director general of the board. The funds were a portion of the pilgrims’ Basic Travel Allowance allocated to a particular local government area in the state.
During the presentation of the 2023 Hajj report by the State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed his administration’s deep appreciation for Gezawa’s integrity and decided to reward him for his remarkable display of honesty. The governor acknowledged the challenging economic circumstances faced by Gezawa but commended his unwavering commitment to doing what is right.
“This casual worker has proven his integrity by returning missing money, despite his status and economic hardship in the country,” Governor Yusuf stated.
