Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has urged the electorate to refrain from voting for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming general elections on February 25 and March 11. He emphasized that doing so would be tantamount to endorsing the party’s poor performance over the past seven years. Instead, Diri called on voters to support all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to secure a decisive victory for the party.
The governor made these remarks at the Government House in Yenagoa during a visit from members of the Ward To Ward For Diri/Lawrence, a socio-political group that came to express their solidarity. Represented by his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Diri stated that anyone who truly cares for Nigeria would not cast their vote for the APC, given its record of underwhelming performance. According to a statement from the deputy governor’s media aide, Doubara Atasi, Diri reiterated that the APC could no longer be trusted with political power and encouraged the group to work diligently for the success of the PDP at all levels.
Diri also highlighted the achievements of his administration in various sectors, including infrastructural development, education, security, and sports. He attributed these successes to his preparedness for governance and the ongoing support from the people of Bayelsa. He firmly stated, “The APC has destroyed Nigeria and cannot be trusted by Nigerians. It cannot be trusted with power in this country. So, vote for the PDP at all levels.”
Ogidi Bara-Ben, the Director General of the Ward To Ward for Diri/Lawrence, expressed the group’s satisfaction with the governor’s administration, particularly noting the progress being made in the construction of the Bayelsa Central senatorial road.
