Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba and the Nigeria Police Force have been sued by Prof. Zainab Abiola, the widow of the late Chief MKO Abiola, who won the June 12, 1993, presidential election. The lawsuit, filed in the Federal High Court in Abuja, also names Ibrahim Baba, the IGP’s son, and former police orderly Teju Moses as defendants. Abiola’s legal action, referenced as FHA/ABJ/CS/2370/202, was initiated by her lawyer, Tawo Tawo (SAN), and alleges violations of her fundamental human rights to life and dignity.

In her statement of claim, which was obtained by journalists on Sunday, Abiola asserts that she was falsely accused of inflicting injury on Inspector Moses by Ibrahim Alkali, the IGP’s adopted son, on September 20, 2022. She contends that this accusation has severely damaged her reputation. “He (Ibrahim Alkali) conspired with my ex-orderly to lie that I inflicted bodily harm on her. We have CCTV cameras around that will reveal what happened when the proceedings commenced,” she stated.
