The Commissioner of Health in Cross River State, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, has announced plans to reactivate the anti-quackery task force on healthcare in the state. This decision comes in response to the increasing prevalence of medical quackery and other fraudulent activities in the healthcare sector.
Dr. Ayuk made this announcement during a meeting with a delegation from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), who were visiting his office in Calabar. He emphasized the need to reorganize and retrain the state’s regulatory bodies, as well as relaunch the anti-quackery task force.
The reactivation of the task force aims to effectively address the wrongdoings in the healthcare system, which have become a cause for concern. Dr. Ayuk stated, “In addition to reactivating the anti-quackery task force, we want to invite owners of private hospitals, clinics, maternity centers, pharmacies, patent medicine vendors, and mortuaries, among others, to update their licenses. We hope that they will comply in the true spirit of partnership.”
During the meeting, Mr. Richard Anichuku, the coordinator of NAFDAC in Cross River State, expressed gratitude to the State Government for their cooperation thus far. He pledged to strengthen the collaboration through ongoing training and regular joint operations with stakeholders in Cross River State.
“We are committed to enhancing our relationship with the state government through regular joint operations and training initiatives,” Mr. Anichuku emphasized.
