Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has expressed that the Federal University of Transportation in Daura will bring relief to the indigenes of the state. The governor made this statement during a courtesy visit from the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal.
Governor Radda acknowledged the current hardships faced by Nigerians due to the removal of fuel subsidy, emphasizing that the establishment of the university is a blessing. It will provide education opportunities for indigenes who would otherwise face transportation costs, considering the ongoing inflation and economic crisis.
Speaking further, Governor Radda highlighted the impact of inflation on the state, saying, “Our indigenes are going through difficult times with inflation everywhere. Inflation has also increased the cost of governance on our own side.” In response to these challenges, the governor has implemented measures to curb wastage in the government, such as introducing a pricing unit to regulate contracts and procurements.
The University of Transportation in Daura will offer specialized courses on various aspects of transportation, providing indigenes with the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s development. Governor Radda commended the commitment and determination of the pioneer vice-chancellor and assured him of his administration’s support in every possible way. The governor also mentioned that his discussions with the Minister of Transportation and the Minister of Education have confirmed that academic activities at the university will commence soon.
The vice-chancellor, during the visit, informed Governor Radda about the visit of the National University Commission’s Resource Verification Team to the university. Highlighting the importance of the state government’s involvement, the vice-chancellor noted that the land used for constructing the university was allocated by the previous administration. He appealed to the governor to continue supporting the institution.
During their time in Katsina, the vice-chancellor, alongside the NUC resource verification officials, also paid visits to the State House of Assembly and the Emir of Katsina.
